How we work

Editorial standards & sponsorship disclosure

Independence is the only thing a local guide really sells. These are the rules we hold ourselves to, written plainly so you can hold us to them too.

Effective August 20, 2026

Independence

Editorial decisions are made by the Goldeneye Gulf desk alone. No business, advertiser, tourism board or partner can buy coverage, buy a position in a list, buy a rating, or review a story before it publishes.

Where a commercial relationship exists, it is disclosed on the page it affects — not buried here.

Verification

Factual details about a place — legal name, address, area, phone, website, hours, amenities — are verified against the operator's own official channels or an official public source such as a county, state or park authority before publication. We record which source a detail came from and when it was checked.

Where sources disagree, the operator's official channel wins for contact and hours, and the government source wins for boundaries, fees and legal names. If neither can confirm a detail, we publish without it.

How we describe experiences

We write from first-hand visits. Where a story reflects a single visit on a single day, it says so. We do not present marketing copy, press releases or third-party reviews as our own experience, and we do not generate reviews for places we have not been.

Disclosure labels

Every story carries a disclosure when one applies. The labels we use:

  • Independent visit — we paid our own way in full.
  • Hosted visit — a business or organisation covered part or all of the visit. Coverage was not promised in exchange.
  • Complimentary items — specific items were provided free of charge.
  • Press trip — travel was arranged or paid for by a third party.
  • Affiliate links — we may earn a commission if you book or buy through a link. The commission never affects placement or opinion.
  • Sponsored — paid placement. Clearly marked and never presented as an editorial recommendation.

A disclosure is recorded at publication time and shown exactly as written then. It is never regenerated, softened or removed after the fact.

Advertising and listings

Paid advertising, if present, is visually distinct from editorial content and labelled. A business appearing on this site has not paid to be here, and paying for advertising does not create, improve or protect an editorial listing.

Corrections

We correct errors of fact promptly. Substantive corrections — anything that changes the meaning of a claim — are noted on the story. Minor fixes such as a changed phone number are simply updated.

Report anything you believe is wrong on the contact and corrections page, choosing Correction or factual issue. Tell us what is wrong and, if you can, point us at the official source. Every report is read, but a correction is only published after we verify it against a source that meets the standards above — we do not change the record on request alone. Businesses can ask for an update to their own details through the same form.

Use of AI

Published editorial writing and the judgements in it are human. We may use software to assist with research, formatting and checking, but a person is responsible for every published claim, and no story is published without human review.
